The Health
Professions Council
As part of the NHS Plan,
published in 2000, the Department of Health made a commitment to bring
forward proposals for the effective regulation of health support workers.
Out of this commitment was born the Health Professions Council (HPC) as a
new regulatory body to replace the Council for Professions Supplementary
to Medicine (CPSM).
The HPC now regulates the 13 Allied Health Professions and has begun to
examine applications from professions seeking regulation. So far,
applications from the Clinical
Psychologists, Clinical Perfusion Scientists, Clinical Physiologists,
Clinical Technologists and Medical Illustrators (Clinical Photographers)
have been approved.
Once the State Register for Clinical Photographers opens it will be the
HPC that administers all aspects of the register including the monitoring
of standards and the setting and collection of fees.
More information
about registration and the HPC can be found on their very
comprehensive web site www.hpc-uk.org.
